Help change how government listens to young people in care

Your experiences can shape how the Department works with children and young people in the future - not just for one project, but every time they ask young people for their views.

If you've been in care in Western Australia, we want to hear from you

Your experiences can help improve the way government listens to children and young people in care—not just for one project, but every time they ask young people for their views. You can get involved by:

 

  • completing a short, anonymous survey and/or;
  • joining a workshop online (26 Aug or 7 Sept 2026) or an in-person workshop in your region to help shape how government listens to young people in care: Perth (29 Aug 2026), Perth (2 Sept 2026), Kalgoorlie (15 Sept 2026), Albany (2 Oct 2026) and Broome (16 Oct)
  • or doing both.

There's no expectations or pre-requisites other than having a care experience in Western Australia.

Workshop participants are paid for their time because we value their lived experience.

Why we're doing this

No one knows what it's like to grow up in care better than the young people who've lived it.

 

That's why CREATE is working with the WA Government to make sure children and young people have a stronger voice in decisions that affect them.

 

Your ideas will help shape how government engages with young people in care in future research, policy and projects.

 

CREATE will lead the survey and workshops, creating a safe, welcoming space where you can share your ideas alongside other young people with care experience.

How it works

Step 1: Complete the survey

Share your experiences through our short anonymous survey. Your responses will help shape our regional workshops.

Step 2: Join a workshop

We're hosting online and in-person workshops with young people. We're also travelling to Kalgoorlie, Albany and Broome to hear directly from young people in their communities.

Step 3: We report back

We'll combine everything we hear into a report for the WA Government to help improve how children and young people are engaged in the future.

We'll also let young people know what we heard and how their ideas helped shape the final product.
