	Rob Martin Position: State Coordinator About Rob: Hey! I’m Rob, and I’m having an awesome time working with the CREATE team here in Adelaide. I am LOVING my role with CREATE because I get to meet lots of strong, creative, and amazing young people! I think that the best thing CREATE does is get young people in front of people in government who make decisions about the care system – what better way for government to learn about what life is like for a young person in care.   Favourite quote of all time? ‘Be yourself; Everyone else is already taken.’ – Oscar Wilde   If you’re ever in the city, drop by for a cuppa!
	Lauren May Position: Community Facilitator About Lauren: I’ve now come on broad with the CREATE SA team as a Community Facilitator. I am running a new and exciting program called CREATE Your Future. The program has four workshops each is educational, fun and interactive. The workshops – Great Race, Think Outside the Square, Pathways to Independence and How to get a job and keep it  will run throughout the year. Check out www.createyourfuture.org.au for more details. I’m also on the lookout for young people aged 12 years and up to join our (YAG) Youth Advisory Group.  If you would like to discuss issues about being in care while doing a fun activity and to want to be a voice for young people then this could be a perfect opportunity for you to get involved and have your say. I look forward to seeing some new faces around create and at our events.
	Claudine Scalzi Position: Community Facilitator About Claudine: My Name is Claudine and I am really excited to be a part of the CREATE team here in South Australia as the Mission:Be Community Facilitator. Mission: Be is a program for young people in out of home care aged between 14 – 17 yrs old. It is usually run over a three month period with sessions and camps mostly on weekends. The Mission:Be program includes seven module based workshops which include learning about leadership, team building, goal setting, personal self discovery, action learning and learning about community.  The CREATE Foundation is a licensed operator for the Duke of Edinburgh Award, sponsored by the South Australian Office for Youth. This award is recognized worldwide as a mark of individual achievement and can open many doors for future opportunities. The Award is made up of three sections; Skill, Physical Recreation and Service and three levels Bronze, Silver and Gold. The Bronze award is achievable for participants of Mission:Be. I can’t wait to take the Mission:Be journey with you!

Charter of Rights for Children and Young People in Care

The Charter of Rights sets out the rights of all children and young people in care in this state.  The Charter talks about what you can expect from people who look after you and work with you while you are in care. If you feel like your rights are not being met, you should talk to an adult you trust like your carer or caseworker, or call the numbers listed on the Charter of Rights. You could also try calling CREATE in your state on 1800 655 105 to talk about your options. Some useful links:

CREATE is seeking young people who are 12 and over to be a part of our Youth Advisory Group. If you want the opportunity to connect with other young people, share experiences and have a good time then come along! The meeting may include social events, activities and forums to discuss issues and identify solutions. To find out more call Lauren at CREATE on 8223 6603.

About Our Programs

clubCREATE

clubCREATE is a membership program for children and young people in care or for young people with a care experience. Members get a welcome pack, bi-monthly magazines, invitations to events, and a birthday card each year. You can join clubCREATE by calling the SA office on 1800 655 015 or email clubCREATE@create.org.au and ask for a membership form.

Entering Care Kits

If you are entering care for the first time, CREATE will deck you out with a backpack of essential stuff to help you on your way. You need to join clubCREATE to be able to receive a kit just contact your SA office on 1800 655 015 or email clubCREATE@create.org.au.

Create Your Future - for all you need to know about leaving care!

State and Territory Youth Advisory Groups

Youth Advisory Groups bring young people together to discuss care issues and explore solutions and potential advocacy projects. Youth Advisory Groups are in each state and territory and provide feedback to CREATE which can help to promote positive change within the out of home care system. The Youth Advisory Groups also tell CREATE how best to represent the opinions of children and young people in care. To find out more contact your CREATE SA office on 1800 655 105.

mission:be

mission: be is a personal discovery program run over a three month period. It has a focus on self development and leadership for young people in care aged 14-18 years who have a care experience. The program involves workshops, camps and adventure activities.

• Wanting to gain leadership, team work and communication skills

Young Consultants

Young Consultants are young people aged 14 and over who have had a care experience. They work alongside CREATE staff to share with others in the community what it is like to be in care. Young Consultants go to conferences, consultations, forums and events to represent CREATE and young people in care. To become a young consultant you need to complete Young Consultants Training.

Young Consultants Training

To become a Young Consultant you need to undertake the Young Consultant’s Training Course which is a fun training workshop. You can hang out with other young people, develop skills in presentation and public speaking and learn all about the care system. Young Consultants training may lead to opportunities to do some occasional paid work with CREATE through representation at conferences, consultations, forums and events and providing training support.
