KIDS IN STATE CARE RECEIVE KENMORE KINDY’S CHRISTMAS KINDNESS
Kenmore Kindy is sharing the spirit of giving at Christmas with the kindy kids giving gifts to some of the 6,600 kids in QLD who will be spending this Christmas in state care (i.e. foster, residential and kinship care). A special ‘giving’ event will be held on Monday 7 December and attended by Jacqui Reed, Chief Executive Officer, CREATE foundation on behalf of the kids in care
Jacqui Reed said “This will be a very special Christmas for many children, especially if it is their first Christmas in care. To receive these beautifully wrapped gifts straight from the heart of the kids at Kenmore Kindy will make this Christmas even more special for them.”
“CREATE Foundation relies on support from all areas of the community, corporate and government sectors. The generosity of Kenmore Kindergarten is a huge help at this difficult time of year when demand for support is so high,” continued Jacqui Reed.
Right now over 32,000 kids in Australia live in out-of-home care, with 6,600 in QLD alone. Annually this number grows by 3,300. Through no fault of their own, children and young people may be placed in care due to neglect or abuse and are more likely to be undereducated, homeless, become a parent at a younger age, or be involved in the Juvenile Justice system.
Kenmore District Kindergarten & Preschool is a community kindergarten for children aged 3-5 years. They educate some of our youngest members of society through an engaging, play based curriculum.
One important thing the children at Kenmore District are learning this Christmas is the importance of giving to others, in particular to disadvantaged children. Each child at Kenmore District has been asked to do some jobs at home (such as unloading non-breakable items from the dishwasher, folding clothes, setting the table, making bed) in order to earn money with which they will then go out and buy a present for a child. These presents will be donated to Create Foundation at the centre 11am, Monday December 7, 2009.
The Director of Kenmore District, Lyndall Hind states, ‘Helping children to understand the importance of gift giving to others and in particular giving to others less fortunate is an important lesson. We hope children will understand how fortunate they are and appreciate the importance of helping others.’
