About the CREATE NT Team
Position: Senior Community Facilitator, Alice Springs
Hi. My name is Tania and I’m the new Senior Community Facilitator here in Alice Springs. I moved around a bit as a child because of my Dad’s work. I have lived in Ballarat & Melbourne which are both in Victoria and can be quite cold, we moved to Darwin in the NT when I was 7 and I loved living where the weather was always warm. When I was 13 we moved to Perth in Western Australia which was my favourite place because of the beaches (that you could swim at) and rivers. Perth also had very lovely weather.
I moved back to Melbourne when I was 18 and stayed there for a long time. I moved to Alice Springs 4 ½ years ago and plan to stay here for a long time. I have 2 sons, my big boy lives in Melbourne, and my youngest lives here with me in Alice Springs. I’ve had a lot of different roles over the years but I’m glad to have been a full time Youth Worker for the past 4.
I am really excited about working with the CREATE Foundation here in Alice Springs and getting to meet all you Young People. I look forward to having the chance to work with you so that we can hear your great ideas about how to make your care experience better.
Damon Van der Schuit
Position: Community Facilitator, Alice Springs
Damon was born and grew up in Alice Springs. The last 5 years he has spent travelling but is now happy to be back and settled in Alice Springs.
His background includes a Bachelor of Psychological Science, Cert IV in fitness, and he is currently undertaking a Diploma of Creative and Indigenous Writing, and desert-knowledge leadership program.
He has worked previously as an Assistant teacher, Events facilitator, and Personal trainer. Damon’s Interests are Music, sport, language and travel.
Position: State Coordinator, Darwin
My name is Michelle Barry and I just been given the great new job of NT Coordinator. I love the Northern Territory and it has become my home over the last 5 years. Although you will notice I speak a bit funny…I’m from Ireland originally “diddlie diddlie eye potatoes!!” and before you ask I only know a little bit of Irish dancing. I love the heat in the Northern Territory and especially the electrical storms in the wet season!
I’ve always enjoyed being with young people and looking after all my cousins when I was younger it just made sense to work with young people so then I don’t feel like I have to work! Being with young people keeps me young and keeps me smiling.
Position: Community Facilitator, Darwin
HI! My name is Sam and I’m a Community Facilitator here at CREATE Darwin.
I joined the team a year ago and have been very busy organising events and more recently running the Create Your Future workshops and program.
I have lots of experience with youth having been a school tutor, homework co-ordinator, rugby coach and, not to mention, a mum to 4 energetic and sometimes mischievous kids. I moved to the NT 20 years ago from chilly Victoria and love the heat. I’m a Piscean so love cooling off in the pool and doing laps to keep fit.
I enjoy working at CREATE and feel very privileged getting to meet so many children and young people in care and being part of their sometimes challenging journey. I feel inspired daily with the awesome achievements they make, big and small, whether it’s getting an award at school or for some just keeping out of trouble for a week!
The best part of my job is seeing everyone come together at the connection events, and watching the friendships and the sense belonging that develops among the young people in care. I also respect the important role and the passion that carers show here in the NT. I have met so many people so far but look forward to meeting many more this year and helping in creating a better in care system.
Position: Youth Facilitator, Darwin
Hi, my name is Cheyanne and I am the Youth Facilitator here in the NT. I have been working at CREATE Darwin since June 2012 and have really enjoyed meeting all our wonderful CREATE members. I am very excited to be involved in the delivery of Speak Up, YAG, and all round Advocacy!
I have lived in Darwin for almost 20 years and I’m still not used to the build up! I have a beautiful little boy (Heath) who is 3! Heath keeps us on our toes, he loves to explore, paint and pretend to be a racing car/ rocket/ plane/helicopter flying machine pretty much 24/7!!
I’ve been involved with the CREATE Foundation for a very long time as a child in care growing up in the NT, and I’m happy to be staying connected to create and friends. I am very passionate and excited to see and create change for the better within the care system and for all YP here in the Northern Territory.
