Getting It Right
CREATE launches to Planet Right!
An amazing group of children and young people with a care experience worked with CREATE to come up with a book and DVD to help other children and young people to understand what they can expect while they are in care.
Based on the Charter for children and young people in out-of-home care in Victoria, all the resources were part of the Getting It Right Project.
The Charter lists the rights and privileges people have. We all have rights, and as part of the community we need to respect each other’s rights.
This charter lists what children and young people can expect from all the people who look after them and work with them when they are in care.
Being safe and well are the most important rights, so they have been put first on the charter. Safety always comes first!
Below are two awesome videos and books by CREATE that were launched by the Hon. Mary Wooldridge last year at CREATE.
The first DVD is an animated cartoon targeting children 0‐12 years. The animated character, named Jake, conveys key messages about what children can expect while growing up in care. Jake focuses on what a person ‘is allowed’ to do such as to be safe, to have fun and learn, and go to school.

The second DVD entitled “Getting it Right”, is for young people aged 13‐17. Young people with a care experienced helped to write the scripts, activity books and puzzles. This DVD also features a soundtrack of The John Butler Trio song “Better than”.
